Chieftain of the Day

Jim Dougherty

Jim Dougherty

Jim has served as President of the Clan Elliot Society USA since October, 2021, having served the Clan Society as First Vice President and Treasurer/Membership Officer in the years prior. He also serves as Commissioner for the State of Iowa.

Having always had a great deal of interest in genealogy and family history, he was particularly excited to learn of his Scottish heritage as he researched his maternal family history, which lead to joining the Clan Elliot Society in 2014. Since then, he has had the opportunity to attend each in-person AGM in various venues in the US, and also the two most recent Gatherings of Clan Eliot in Scotland in 2013 and 2017. The journey has led to wonderful discoveries of the Clan history and opportunities to meet Elliot family and friends all across the US as well as the world.

Jim retired from a career in Agri-business in 2019, and relocated to Southern Illinois where his wife Natalie grew up. He continues to pursue his interest in genealogy and family history, is learning the bagpipes, volunteers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, and other local charities. His greatest joys are his wife, children and their families, which include six grandchildren.

Jim is grateful for the honor of serving as Chieftain of the Day, and recognizes it not as personal recognition but as an honor acknowledged to the Clan Elliot Society, USA, and on whose behalf he extends gratitude for designation as Honored Clan for the Games.
