Competition begins at 9:00am Building 14

The solo fiddle competition will use the rules sanctioned by the Scottish Fiddling revival Ltd. Competition is eligible to enter the National competition. Performance should be in a traditional scottish style (Northeast, Highland or other regional style) and without any accompanying instruments.

Classes of Competitors:

Novice: Open to any fiddler new to Scottish fiddling, no age restrictions.

Junior: Open to any fiddler under the age of 18

Open: Any fiddler may compete in this class.

Competition Repertoire:

Novice: Three tunes either, air, (pause, wait for a nod from the Judge) then a strathespey and reel, or a march strathespy and reel set.

Open & Junior Class: Must play an air, then a set of tunes - March, strathespy and a reel, in that order.

Type of Tunes:

Air: Any slow air pastoral, slow strathspey, lament or tune played as a march.

Strathspey: Any dance strathspey or other tune played as a strathspey.

Reel: Any reel, Scots measure, hornpipe or other tune played as a reel. Waltzes, jigs and hornpipes played as such cannot be substituted for the categories listed above.

Cash Awards:

Novice - 1st $30 • 2nd $15 • 3rd $10

Junior - 1st $40 • 2nd $15 • 3rd $10

Open - 1st $75 • 2nd $30 • 3rd $20

Fiddle Workshop

To promote Scottish fiddling and music, after the fiddle competition we will sponsor a Scottish Fiddling workshop.

General Rules for Competitions

1. All Entry fees are to be paid in U.S. Currency only; all checks and money orders are to be payable to S.A.C.S.O. or The Scottish-American Cultural Society of Ohio, Inc.

2. Appropriate Highland attire is expected in all events. No competition medals may be worn during the competition.

3. All competitors must wear a competition number when required.

4. Decision of judges/stewards in all events is final.

5. Any competitor not ready to compete when called will be disqualified for that event.

6. A juvenile competitor must furnish proof of date of birth if requested. Age is as of the day prior to the competition.

7. Complaints concerning The Ohio Scottish Games may be forwarded after the Games with a $5.00 processing charge to:

8. Pre-Registration is encouraged but FIELD ENTRIES will be accepted and will be required to pay:

$15.00 for a ticket at the gate for admission to the grounds.

$10.00 late registration fee.

Release for All Events

In consideration of S.A.C.S.O.'s acceptance of me (my child/ward) as a competitor in the 2010 Ohio Scottish Games (2010 OSG), I hereby release and waive, individually and on behalf of my heirs, executors, and administrators) any and all claims, demands, and causes of action against the Scottish-American Cultural Society of Ohio, Inc. It's agents, representatives, trustees, officers, employees and volunteers, for any and all injuries or claims of whatsoever type or nature, resulting from, or arising out of, or in any way connected with the competitions at the 2010 Ohio scottish Games.

I also certify that I am or my child/ward, is physically fit and is sufficiently trained for competition in these events.

My signature on any entry form will indicate that I have read and understand the General Rules for All Competitors and also serve as a Complete Release to S.A.C.S.O. Inc. to permit them or anyone acting for them to photograph me (my child) and to use these photographs for S.A.C.S.O. Inc. publicity to publish or otherwise use in whole or in part, either digitally or in any other medium now know or later discover, any photographs taken of me (my child) without identifying me (my child) as their subject.

It also serves as a complete release and discharge of S.A.C.S.O. Inc. from any claim or cause of action, now known or later discovered, for among other things, right of publicity arising out of the use of the photographs.
